IGNOU COMPLETED 30 YEARS TODAY

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 19th November, 2015: IGNOU Regional Centre Siliguri has celebrated the 30th ‘Foundation Day’ of the University today on 19th November, 2015 at the Regional Centre premises. Dr. Biswajit Bhowmik, Regional Director welcomed all the guests and highlighted IGNOU’s role in reaching to the unreached segments of the society in North Bengal. He mentioned that IGNOU Siliguri Regional Centre started its journey in North Bengal in 2004 with 2500 learners. Today, the Regional Centre caters to the education needs of 15,000 learners in 6 districts of North Bengal (Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur). On this occasion Prof. Bikash Ranjan Deb, Teacher In-charge, Surya Sen College, Siliguri, was the ‘Chief Guest’ and delivered the ‘Foundation Day Lecture’ on ‘ Higher Education in India : Problems and Prospects’. In his address, Dr. Deb elaborated IGNOU’s role in democratizing higher education in India. He complimented Regional Centre for making IGNOU popular in North Bengal. Academic Counsellors, Coordinators of Study Centres, present and former students of IGNOU attended the programme.
